Leadership vs Managership
People follow people who they think are interesting, successful and will benefit them (the selfish gene at play). Simply paying more to get results, or using other simplistic ‘motivation’ tools may work in the short term but most certainly does not engender leadership nor good management. In all my experience both as an entrepreneur, coach and senior executive I have come to experience many great and terrible examples.
Leadership: taking the initiative, being bold, taking the difficult decisions and being there if they con’t go according to plan
Managership: doing what others have done: doing the job and doing in (hopefully) well. Stretching the boundaries but within parameters.
Some people don’t ‘get’ the difference.
But in all of this, and taking first steps, it’s usually the mindsets which cause obstructions…..
